Are dapps open source?

Some are and some aren't. It really depends on the developers and their level of openness. Generally speaking, though, most dapps are built on open-source platforms like Ethereum, which makes them inherently more open to scrutiny and collaboration. This is one of the key advantages of dapps over traditional apps: they can be more easily modified and improved by anyone who has the skillset to do so.
